Patna, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Central Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s visit to flood-affected areas of Bihar has been hailed by JD(U) MP Devesh Chandra Thakur as a sign of government responsiveness. Thakur highlighted the contrasting situations in the state, where some regions are grappling with severe flooding while others in North Bihar are facing drought-like conditions. He emphasized the need for the government to assess both scenarios to evaluate the damages suffered by farmers and affected communities.
Thakur praised Chouhan’s visit to the flood-affected areas, noting it reflects the government’s sensitivity to the crisis. “Conditions vary across Bihar. While some areas are inundated, others are suffering from a lack of rainfall,” he stated. He pointed out that many regions in North Bihar have not received adequate rainfall, leading to drought-like conditions. In contrast, while South Bihar has seen rainfall, certain parts of North Bihar continue to struggle. He insisted that an assessment should not only focus on flood damage but also consider the losses incurred due to insufficient rainfall.
In response to Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav’s allegations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not responded to his letter regarding flood-affected areas, Thakur advised patience. “Tejashwi should wait for a response. The Prime Minister is often busy, and there may be a backlog in the Prime Minister’s Office. A reply will definitely come,” he said, adding that Modi remains vigilant about such matters.
On the topic of the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in NDA-ruled states before 2029, as mentioned by Home Minister Amit Shah, Thakur stated that the final decision will be made by the party leadership. “I am a soldier of the party, and I will support whatever decision is made,” he affirmed, indicating that the party’s stance will determine future actions on the issue.
Thakur also responded positively to the ongoing Seva Sankalp campaign marking Prime Minister Modi’s birthday. He noted that the Prime Minister has accomplished many significant and historic tasks during his tenure. “Modi is a popular leader, and people are expressing their sentiments in various ways on his birthday. Celebrating through service programs is commendable, and there is nothing wrong with it,” he remarked, highlighting the natural inclination of people to express their feelings through such initiatives.
