New Delhi, March 22: A fraudulent message is circulating on social media claiming to be from the SBI YONO app, urging users to download an APK file to update their Aadhaar.
The PIB Fact Check team reported on social media platform X that a message purportedly from SBI is going viral. It claims that users must download and install an APK file sent with the message to update their Aadhaar.
Additionally, the message warns that failure to update Aadhaar will result in the blocking of the SBI YONO app.
However, PIB Fact Check clarified that this claim is entirely false. SBI has not issued any such official communication.
Users are advised against downloading such APK files and are urged not to enter any personal information, such as banking or Aadhaar details, into these files.
Moreover, if users receive such messages, they should report them to ‘report.phishing@sbic.co.in’ for necessary action.
This incident highlights the rising trend of phishing attacks targeting banking customers, especially through messaging platforms like WhatsApp.
Banks consistently urge individuals to remain vigilant against such messages, as scammers often exploit account holders’ fears to obtain sensitive information, sometimes draining entire accounts.
Additionally, the government agency has advised users to be cautious of unsolicited messages, especially with the increasing trend of digital banking and the widespread use of apps like YONO. Trust only verified updates from official channels.
