Kolkata, April 18: The Chief Electoral Officer of the state, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, warned police officials during a virtual meeting on Saturday that any form of unrest on voting day will not be tolerated. Immediate action will be taken in case of any unpleasant incidents during the polling.
The Election Commission also cautioned that any negligence in controlling the situation could lead to the suspension of responsible officers.
Manoj Agarwal stated that if weapons, bombs, or bullets are found in any area on voting day, the officers in charge of the respective police stations must take action. Failure to do so will result in strict measures from the Commission.
The Chief Election Commission questioned why those accused of inciting unrest during the last assembly elections have not yet been arrested.
He directed the police to identify criminals in the districts. The Commission emphasized that individuals with prior violence cases should be monitored to prevent them from causing disturbances in this election.
Notably, the Election Commission is determined to conduct free and fair elections this time.
