Benefits of Flower Clap: A Simple Practice for All Ages

New Delhi: In today’s fast-paced life, irregular routines and unhealthy eating habits often lead to various physical and mental health issues. Among the many yoga practices that help combat these problems, a simple exercise inspired by clapping, known as the “Flower Clap” or “Pushp Tali,” has gained attention for its numerous benefits.

The Flower Clap is an easy and effective practice based on the act of clapping. According to experts at the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, this exercise is beneficial for people of all ages, from children to the elderly. It forms part of clapping therapy, which activates over 340 acupressure points present in the hands.

The method to perform the Flower Clap is straightforward and can be done anywhere. Experts recommend standing straight or sitting comfortably, bringing both hands in front of the chest. Then, open the hands like a flower by spreading the fingers and slightly curving the palms. Clap loudly as if a flower is blooming. While clapping, raise the hands upwards and then bring them down gently, imitating the falling raindrops.

The clapping sound should be loud and rhythmic. Beginners can start with 5 to 10 minutes daily, preferably early morning on an empty stomach or in fresh air. For enhanced effects, applying mustard or coconut oil on the palms before clapping is advised. The speed can be gradually increased, but without applying excessive force.

Regular practice of the Flower Clap offers many health benefits. The stimulation of acupressure points in the hands positively impacts vital organs like the kidneys, lungs, heart, digestive system, and lower back. It improves blood circulation, supporting heart health and helping maintain blood pressure.

This exercise also supports mental well-being by reducing stress, anxiety, and mood swings. It increases the production of happy hormones, keeping the mind cheerful. For children, it enhances cognitive development, concentration, and motor skills. Among adults, it helps relieve joint stiffness, boosts immunity, and reduces fatigue.

One of the key advantages of the Flower Clap is that it requires no equipment, making it easy to perform at home, in parks, or workplaces.
