New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that it is accepting applications for a position on its men’s selection committee. The selected candidate will be responsible for selecting players for the senior national men’s team across formats including Test, ODI, and T20.
This opening is widely believed to be in place of Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector from the West Zone, whose term officially ended on October 4. Notably, Agarkar was absent from the recent meeting concerning team selections for the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand and the India-A series.
The new committee member will play a crucial role in identifying talent, assessing players through domestic and international matches, and helping to build a strong bench strength for the senior national team.
Responsibilities will include attending team meetings, traveling to watch domestic and international matches as needed, preparing quarterly performance evaluation reports for the BCCI’s apex council, and communicating with the media regarding team selections.
Additionally, the committee members will be tasked with appointing captains for each format of the game.
According to the BCCI’s eligibility criteria, candidates must have played at least seven Test matches or 30 first-class matches, or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches. Applicants must also have retired from the game at least five years prior to their application.
Furthermore, the BCCI stated that any individual who has served on any cricket committee under its ‘Memorandum of Association’ and ‘Rules and Regulations’ for a total of five years is ineligible for this position. Agarkar took on the role of chairman of the men’s selection committee in 2023. Under his leadership, India reached the finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 and won the T20 World Cup in 2024, the Champions Trophy in 2025, and the T20 World Cup in 2026.
