Bartman Out of Australia ODI Series Due to Hamstring Injury, Duan Janse van Rensburg Called Up

New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : South Africa has suffered a setback ahead of the ODI series against Australia, as right-arm fast bowler Othniel Bartman has been ruled out due to a left hamstring injury. The three-match series is set to begin on September 24 in Durban.

Cricket South Africa announced on Sunday that Duan Janse van Rensburg will replace Bartman in the squad. Janse van Rensburg is expected to join the team in Durban on September 19, alongside his brother Marco.

Bartman is the second player to withdraw from the series, following Kagiso Rabada, who also sustained a hamstring injury. A decision on Rabada’s participation in the subsequent Test series has yet to be made.

Last week, South Africa announced a 16-member squad for the ODI series, led by Temba Bavuma. The team includes notable players such as David Miller and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock.

Gerald Coetzee has made a return to the squad after last playing in the ODI World Cup 2023, stepping in for Rabada. However, replacing Rabada’s experience will be a significant challenge for any player in the South African lineup.

In the meantime, explosive middle-order batsman Dewald Brevis, who recently excelled in the T20 series against Namibia, will not be part of the team. He is preparing for the Test season, where he will participate in first-class cricket, while Aiden Markram will be available for the second and third ODIs.

The South African ODI squad for the series against Australia includes Temba Bavuma (captain), Duan Janse van Rensburg, Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Bjorn Fortuin, Marco Janse van Rensburg, Keshav Maharaj, Quena Mafaka, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs.
