Guwahati, May 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Monday that the manufacturing sector will play a significant role in achieving the goal of a ‘Developed India.’ He emphasized that Assam is poised to make a vital contribution to the country’s industrial development journey.
The Chief Minister shared insights about the industrial sites being developed in the state under the central government’s ambitious initiative. He mentioned that world-class plug-and-play infrastructure parks are being established in Assam, aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing, attracting investment, and creating new job opportunities.
On the social media platform X, Chief Minister Sarma wrote, “Manufacturing is the key to a developed India, and Assam will play a crucial role in this. We are developing 15 sites under the Indian government’s grand industrial vision, where plug-and-play infrastructure parks will be created to boost domestic manufacturing, enhance economic growth, and generate employment.”
According to the Chief Minister, this initiative will focus on eight priority industrial parks in Assam, with an investment potential of approximately ₹33,600 crores.
Officials noted that this grand initiative will strengthen Assam’s industrial ecosystem. It will improve infrastructure readiness, enhance ease of doing business, and facilitate faster project implementation for investors.
The proposed industrial parks are expected to encompass various sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, food processing, clean energy, petrochemicals, and ancillary industries.
Under the plug-and-play model, industries will be provided with ready infrastructure, including roads, electricity, water, and shared facilities, allowing them to commence operations with minimal delay.
It is noteworthy that the Assam government has been adopting an aggressive strategy for industrial investment over the past few years. Following the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’ investment summit held earlier this year, investment activities in the state have gained momentum.
The state government consistently claims that Assam’s strategic location in the Northeast, improved connectivity, and investor-friendly policies make it an attractive destination for investors.
Chief Minister Sarma reiterated that the state government is working with the central government to establish Assam as the leading manufacturing and logistics hub in the Northeast.
