Assam Finance Minister Emphasizes Full Utilization of Budget Allocations

Guwahati, June 25: Assam’s Finance Minister Jayant Malla Barua stated on Thursday that the upcoming state budget will focus on ensuring the complete utilization of allocated funds while maintaining fiscal discipline and accelerating development across all sectors.

Addressing a BJP pre-budget consultation program, Barua noted that nearly 90 percent of the current financial year’s budget allocation has already been utilized, showcasing the government’s improved implementation capacity.

He further mentioned that the goal is to achieve nearly 100 percent expenditure of the approved funds to maximize the impact of public spending.

The Finance Minister indicated that the government is preparing the budget while consulting various stakeholders and considering suggestions from different segments of society.

He emphasized that effective use of financial resources remains a top priority to sustain Assam’s development momentum.

Barua highlighted significant improvements in the state’s fiscal management over recent years, enabling the government to undertake major infrastructure, welfare, and economic development initiatives without compromising financial stability.

He reiterated that the upcoming budget will continue to prioritize investments in infrastructure, job creation, agriculture, education, healthcare, and social welfare, thereby strengthening Assam’s long-term development path.

The Finance Minister also mentioned the government’s focus on transparency and accountability in public spending, stating that departments have been instructed to ensure timely execution of projects and efficient use of budget allocations.

The Assam Assembly’s budget session is set to commence on July 6, during which the state budget for the current financial year will be presented.

The government is expected to announce measures aimed at boosting economic development across the state, improving public service delivery, and accelerating the implementation of key schemes.

This will be the first budget following the recently concluded assembly elections, where the BJP secured 82 seats, crossing the majority mark for the first time independently. The BJP-led alliance won 102 seats in the 126-member assembly, while the Congress party faced a significant defeat, securing only 19 seats, marking its lowest tally in history.
