Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Files Nomination for Seventh Election

Guwahati, March 20: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma submitted his nomination papers for the upcoming assembly elections on Friday. This marks his seventh election campaign. Sarma filed his nomination from the Jalukbari constituency.

After the nomination, he reflected on his political journey during a media interaction. He noted that after losing his first election, he has won five consecutive elections. He expressed confidence in receiving full support from the people of his constituency this time as well.

In response to opposition statements, CM Sarma remarked that if Congress considers him an institution, it is a matter of pride for him. He stated, “If Congress has elevated me to the level of an institution, I should be pleased, not contentious.”

Earlier on Friday, Sarma made significant comments regarding the state’s cultural and religious traditions. He emphasized that preserving these traditions is the government’s primary responsibility, not merely an act of charity.

On the social media platform ‘X’, he wrote, “Our culture is not just a slogan; it lives in our festivals, our prayers, and our people.” He asserted that it is the government’s duty to stand with the communities that keep these traditions alive.

He also mentioned that the state government is providing financial assistance to various religious and cultural groups. Each Ras committee is being granted ₹25,000 to enhance the organization of the Ras festival, which is a vital part of Assam’s cultural and spiritual identity.

Additionally, over 8,000 prayer committees in the state are receiving ₹10,000 in financial support to ensure the smooth conduct of religious events. The government has also ensured a monthly assistance of ₹1,500 for 620 ascetic devotees who play a crucial role in maintaining spiritual traditions.
