Kolkata, March 25: In the lead-up to the West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has reacted to the alliance between Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM and Humayun Kabir’s ‘Aam Janata Unnayan Party’. He stated that the decision regarding political experiments lies with the public.
Asaduddin Owaisi and Dilip Ghosh are scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday to outline the details of the alliance. Prior to this, Ghosh addressed reporters in New Town, asserting, “The public will decide who they prefer.”
He added, “Owaisi has been trying for some time to achieve success in West Bengal. Previously, there were discussions about an alliance with the CPM, but that did not materialize. Now, he is attempting to form a partnership with Humayun Kabir. If anyone conducts an experiment, the public will make the decision.”
When asked about the potential success of the alliance, Ghosh remarked, “Let the party (AIMIM) get on the ground. They have never contested elections here. Many parties have succeeded, but the people of Bengal are slow to accept newcomers. They will need to work hard and fight for recognition. In a democracy, everyone has the right to contest elections and form parties.”
On the possibility of Owaisi splitting votes, Ghosh stated, “Owaisi will not be able to cut into BJP’s vote share. Any party in power fears losing votes. Owaisi and TMC target Muslim voters, but all Muslim votes currently belong to Mamata Banerjee. If Owaisi’s entry causes any loss, it will be to Mamata Banerjee, not a concern for the BJP.”
Ghosh also responded to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s allegations of a collusion between the BJP and the Election Commission. He said, “Mamata Banerjee claims that the court is also part of the BJP. These are old stories. She should focus on Bhawanipur while the BJP manages the rest of West Bengal.”
Regarding the Supreme Court’s comments on the IPAC case, Ghosh noted that every time Banerjee has approached the court—whether against the Election Commission or other matters—she has faced setbacks. This is due to her unethical actions, which weaken democracy, and it is natural for the court to monitor such behavior.
In light of Rahul Gandhi’s accusations against the central government, Ghosh stated, “He doesn’t need to worry too much about the central government. It is strong. Prime Minister Modi’s influence is recognized worldwide. The country is progressing. Rahul Gandhi should focus on managing his party.”
