Itanagar, August 11: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lieutenant General K.T. Parnaik (Retired), stressed the need for greater transparency and accountability in implementing food security programs to ensure that benefits reach all eligible beneficiaries.
On Tuesday, the Chairman of the State Food Commission, Tarah Tarak, met with the Governor at the Lok Bhawan in Itanagar.
An official from Lok Bhawan reported that they discussed strengthening the food security system, improving service delivery, and ensuring that welfare schemes benefit every eligible citizen, especially those living in remote and border areas of the state.
The Governor highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in executing food security programs. He advised the commission to promote regular social audits of the Public Distribution System (PDS), the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, and the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). He stated that such measures would help identify deficiencies, prevent leakages, and enhance public trust in welfare schemes, ensuring that benefits reach the right beneficiaries.
Emphasizing the role of technology in governance, Lieutenant General Parnaik (Retired) recommended increased use of digital tools for efficient grain distribution. He suggested fully digitizing the supply chain through GPS-enabled transport, electronic point-of-sale devices, Aadhaar-based authentication, and real-time monitoring systems.
He noted that these measures would enhance transparency, curb theft, and ensure timely delivery of grains across the state. Drawing from his experience, the Governor stressed the need to focus on nutritional security beyond just grain availability.
He advocated for incorporating locally available nutritious foods such as millets, fruits, vegetables, eggs, and pulses into government nutrition programs. He emphasized that special attention should be given to children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and other vulnerable groups to combat malnutrition and foster a healthy Arunachal Pradesh.
Also present at the meeting were Maji Chokar and Ngasah Tanjang, members of the commission.
Meanwhile, Colonel Anant Thapan, Principal of the Sainik School in Pasighat, East Siang district, met with the Governor at Lok Bhawan to discuss various issues. The Principal informed the Governor about the institution’s academic performance, co-curricular achievements, infrastructure development, future plans, and the challenges of preparing young cadets in a rapidly changing educational environment.
The Governor emphasized the institution’s crucial role in nurturing disciplined, responsible, and patriotic citizens committed to nation-building. Lieutenant General Parnaik (Retired) stated that Sainik Schools continuously contribute to nation-building by preparing students for leadership roles in the armed forces and other public service sectors.
He stressed that physical fitness, discipline, character building, and academic excellence should remain the core foundations of education in such institutions. Highlighting the importance of a holistic learning environment, the Governor advised the Principal to maintain the campus to the highest standards and ensure it remains conducive to academic education, personality development, and extracurricular activities.
He remarked that a clean, well-maintained, and vibrant campus inspires students to strive for excellence and fosters a sense of responsibility and pride.
Colonel Anant Thapan assured the Governor that the school is committed to providing quality education and opportunities for holistic development to its cadets. He reiterated that the Sainik School in East Siang will continue to lay a strong foundation for producing disciplined, confident, and capable young citizens dedicated to serving the nation.
