Argentina Ambassador Calls India’s Population Its Biggest Economic Strength

New Delhi, February 2: Argentina’s Ambassador to the United States, Mariano Agustin Cosino, said in an exclusive interview that India’s economy’s biggest strength lies in its population.

Cosino highlighted that India is the most populous country in the world and stressed the talent and creativity within its people. He added that once the government removes restrictions, regulations, and limits, Indian citizens have the potential to achieve a lot. This, he noted, explains the significant progress India has made over the last ten to fifteen years.

Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India, the ambassador noted that Modi has achieved great success, with the country growing at a rate of six to eight percent in the past decade. He recalled Modi’s visit to Argentina and a meeting with President Milei where the focus was on easing regulations and giving people greater freedom to progress with less government interference.

When asked about future reforms India should consider to attract more foreign investment, Cosino refrained from advising on domestic policy but emphasized that opening the economy, easing regulations, and allowing more imports benefit Indian consumers and domestic demand.

Cosino expressed optimism about strengthening strategic partnerships between India and Argentina, especially in areas like food security and energy security. He pointed out that the two countries have complementary economies and that Argentina hopes to contribute more to India’s growth in the coming years.
