New Delhi, May 25: Israel has detained participants of a Gaza-bound flotilla, sparking outrage among Arab and Islamic nations. They have accused Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir of publicly humiliating the detainees during their custody. In response, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the minister’s actions.
Foreign ministers from eight Arab and Islamic countries have strongly denounced the extreme behavior of the Israeli minister towards those involved in the flotilla. The Qatar Foreign Ministry provided this information.
The statement read, “The State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey’s foreign ministers condemn the horrific, humiliating, and unacceptable actions of extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir against flotilla participants while they were in Israeli custody.”
The ministry emphasized that Ben-Gvir’s deliberate public humiliation of detainees is a disgraceful attack on human dignity and a clear violation of Israel’s responsibilities under international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law.
Furthermore, the ministers condemned the incitement and illegal, extremist actions by Ben-Gvir and other Israeli officials against Palestinians in the occupied territories.
The Qatar Foreign Ministry stated, “The ministers warned that Ben-Gvir’s provocative actions promote hatred and extremism, obstructing efforts to advance a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution. They demanded accountability for Ben-Gvir’s actions and called for concrete measures to prevent his repeated provocations and violations, ensuring that such actions are neither tolerated nor repeated. They also stressed the need to protect human rights and uphold the dignity and humane treatment of all detainees, ensuring full respect for international law in the occupied Palestinian territories.”
