Approval Granted for 50 MBBS Seats at AIIMS Rewari

Chandigarh, August 31: Haryana’s Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao informed the assembly on Monday that 50 MBBS seats have been approved for admission at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) located in Majra, Rewari, for the current session.

The Health Minister was responding to a question raised during the question hour. She stated that Haryana is home to two major institutions affiliated with the central government’s AIIMS: the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Jhajjar and AIIMS in Rewari.

The National Cancer Institute in Jhajjar serves as the second campus of AIIMS located in New Delhi. It is a tertiary care institution dedicated to cancer treatment and functions as a key center for cancer care, prevention, early detection, research, and human resource development.

AIIMS in Rewari is being established as the 22nd AIIMS in the country under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), which includes a medical college and national importance status. The Indian government has approved the admission of 50 MBBS students for the 2026-27 session.

In response to another question, Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa stated that steps are being taken to improve the drinking water supply system in Hisar city. He addressed a query raised by member Savitri Jindal, explaining that the city’s water supply is sourced from the Bhakra canal and delivered through seven canal-based water treatment plants.

Ranbir Gangwa noted that some areas in Hisar face issues with aging pipelines, leaks, pipe bursts, and low water pressure in the drinking water distribution system. He mentioned that a survey is currently underway to replace or upgrade the drinking water distribution network.

In another response, Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Chaudhary confirmed that water supply for irrigation through canals has been ensured in the Adampur and Nalwa assembly constituencies. She detailed that approximately 48 canals serve these areas, with the exception of Basra Sub-Miner No. 2, which has received government approval for rehabilitation. The remaining 47 canals are being supplied water according to an approved rotation schedule.

She explained that 17 canals in the Nalwa area and four shared canals between both constituencies operate under an approved rotation schedule, running for eight days followed by a 16-day closure.
