Apple Stores will have limited quantities of the iPhone Duo available for walk-in customers when it launches on October 23, according to a company spokesperson. The device will be accessible in select countries including the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., but not available in others such as France and China.

The company anticipates that demand will be high. Apple stated they are working to ensure that customers can experience the new phone as quickly as possible. “Given extraordinary demand for the iPhone Duo, we expect the supply to sell out quickly on Friday,” the spokesperson indicated.

Walk-in availability includes countries like Germany, Australia, and Singapore, with specific stores in Italy also expected to offer the device. In Macao, the iPhone Duo will only be available for walk-in purchase on launch day. Customers in several regions, including India and Japan, will have to book a reservation through Apple’s online store.

This limitation is partly to manage crowd sizes and combat potential scalping. Following the launch, Apple will allow customers to check for reservation availability starting on October 24.

Features and Pricing

The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable phone, priced at $1,999. It features a 5.4-inch external display and unfolds to reveal a larger 7.6-inch screen. Reviewers noted that the device feels heavier than its competitors, weighing in at approximately 254 grams.

Early user feedback points to a learning curve, especially with app compatibility, as many applications are yet to be optimized for the foldable format. Despite this, the iPhone Duo offers innovative multitasking and display options, making it a departure from previous iPhone designs.

Market Reaction

The launch has sparked interest given Apple’s reputation for innovation, yet some experts believe it poses a risk. The iPhone Duo represents a major shift in Apple’s design philosophy, challenging the incremental updates that have characterized recent iPhone releases.

Some early adopters have expressed excitement about the new features while also noting potential frustrations with app functionality. As Apple navigates this new territory, the performance of the iPhone Duo may influence the future direction of the company’s smartphone design.
