Mumbai, August 14: Actor Anupam Kher is highly active on social media, frequently sharing his thoughts. On Friday, he used Instagram to deliver a powerful message to the younger generation about respecting the elderly.
In a video, he stated, “Friends, these days, we often hear the term ‘irrelevant’ or ‘redundant.’ Interestingly, this term is frequently directed at the elderly. I wonder if aging makes a person’s software outdated. Do we receive a notification from God saying, ‘Your services are no longer needed’ for those who label the elderly as useless?”
Kher continued, “To those who think this way, I have a simple question: Do your parents, grandparents, or elders in your life fall into the ‘irrelevant’ category? Look through history to see how many scientists, writers, artists, and thinkers have achieved remarkable feats in their 70s and 80s. Youth brings energy, but age brings experience, which cannot be found on any online tool or downloaded. It must be lived, and it is crucial for the younger generation to understand this. While youth has speed, the elderly possess the experience of the path that is often needed.”
He concluded, “Sometimes, the youth feel they know everything. However, the elderly understand that not everyone knows everything. Age teaches us that the elderly are not a burden on society; they are living history. Therefore, never label anyone as irrelevant for any reason.”
In his video post, Kher wrote, “Timeless golden energy. Youth has the enthusiasm, speed, and an incredible power to feel relevant, but experience is a powerhouse in itself. Narayana Murthy, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Nandan Nilekani, Anand Mahindra, Meryl Streep, and James Cameron, among many others, have all crossed 70 and continue to create new things and guide the world. Thus, to consider the elderly as ‘useless’ or ‘no longer of any use’ is not just rude but foolish. A person’s capability has no expiration date.
