Mumbai, August 13: Actress and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut has addressed her previous comments regarding ‘Gen-Z’ during the student protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
On Thursday, she shared a video on her Instagram Stories, defending her remarks. She referenced a video of a Congress leader, claiming her statements were misinterpreted.
Ranaut stated, “A Congress leader claimed that I referred to the youth of the entire country as ‘gutter print.’ If we consider the youth of the nation, particularly ‘Gen-Z,’ their population is around 300-350 million. However, only about 10,000 people gathered at Jantar Mantar, and more than half were individuals like Shabana Azmi. You may have noticed that people of all ages were present.”
She further clarified that she does not oppose the youth, as she is young herself.
“Regarding the youth, especially Gen-Z, there were approximately 2,000 Gen-Z individuals there. So how can people label this as a Gen-Z protest? It’s not as if the entire country’s Gen-Z is claiming it as their protest. I specifically spoke about that generation present at the gathering. I challenge anyone to show me a statement where I included the entire generation. Don’t run a baseless agenda against me. I cannot be against the youth because I am young, unlike Rahul Gandhi, who is 55-60 years old and still considers himself ‘young.’”
In late July 2026, while commenting on the Gen-Z-led protests at Jantar Mantar, she had referred to some protesters as ‘generation gutter’ and accused them of using inappropriate language and behavior. She also criticized some young female protesters, suggesting they were pretending to seek ‘freedom’ without accountability.
