Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests Two Officials in Deoghar for Bribery

Ranchi, March 13: In a significant operation against corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two employees from the District Land Acquisition Office in Deoghar, Jharkhand, on Friday for accepting bribes. The officials were caught red-handed while demanding a commission in exchange for releasing compensation for land acquired for the Ring Road project.

Earlier on Thursday, ACB also apprehended a police officer and a village secretary in Koderma and Gumla districts for similar bribery cases. The arrested individuals in Deoghar have been identified as Niranjan and Nunu Dev. According to ACB, they were demanding five percent of the total compensation amount from a beneficiary as a commission.

Following a complaint, the ACB verified the allegations and found them to be true. Subsequently, a trap was set, and the two officials were caught at the moment they accepted the bribe. During the raid, cash was recovered from their possession.

The land acquisition for the Ring Road project in Deoghar involves significant amounts of land being taken from farmers and landowners, who are entitled to compensation from the government. It has been alleged that some employees in the Land Acquisition Office were demanding commissions from beneficiaries in exchange for releasing their compensation. One beneficiary reported to the ACB that the office staff was persistently pressuring them for money to process their compensation.

After confirming the complaint, ACB set up a trap and arrested the two accused on Friday. The ACB team has taken the arrested officials to Dumka for further questioning and to complete the legal process. The ACB has urged the public to report any instances of government employees demanding bribes for services.
