Amaravati, March 25: Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, expressed gratitude on Tuesday for the renewal of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) permission for the Rural Development Trust (RDT). He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their support.
Jagan stated that the restoration of FCRA permission will enable RDT to continue its vital services in education, health, environment, and social development. This will significantly benefit the poor and needy in Anantapur district.
However, the YSR Congress Party leader accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of attempting to take credit for this decision. He questioned why it took nearly a year to restore the permission, which had been halted since April 21, 2025.
Jagan attributed the delay to government inaction, which forced people, YSRCP, and civil society organizations to engage in continuous protests. He claimed that the renewal was a result of public pressure and collective struggle, rather than any initiative from the government. Presenting it differently is merely an attempt to gain publicity.
Earlier, Chief Minister Naidu thanked Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the central government on the social media platform X, stating that RDT has been providing excellent services to the poor for decades.
He noted that the trust offers various services in thousands of villages across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The halt on foreign funding under FCRA had hindered the organization’s operations.
Naidu explained that with the intervention of the central government, this issue has now been resolved, allowing RDT to receive foreign funds again, ensuring the smooth continuation of its work.
