Vijayawada, June 20: The family of Gade Sai Krishna, who has been missing for over a month, met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday. They allege that Sai Krishna died while in police custody.
Sai Krishna’s mother, Vijay Lakshmi, urged the Chief Minister to investigate her son’s disappearance and ensure justice. The Chief Minister reassured her that a fair investigation would be conducted.
CM Naidu informed the family that he had already ordered an inquiry and suspended Circle Inspector Nagaraju from the local police station. He emphasized that no one found guilty would be spared.
Vijay Lakshmi expressed her satisfaction with the Chief Minister’s assurance of justice for her son. After the meeting, she stated her confidence that they would receive justice.
The meeting with the Chief Minister came a day after former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Vijayawada to meet Vijay Lakshmi. Reddy demanded a CBI investigation into the case of Sai Krishna’s disappearance and alleged custodial death.
Sai Krishna, a 26-year-old resident of Krishna Lanka in Vijayawada, was taken into custody by police on May 9 for questioning regarding a case. He has not returned home since.
His mother filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court, which ordered the Krishna Lanka police to produce Sai Krishna by June 15. The police failed to comply, prompting the High Court to extend the deadline to June 29.
On June 17, Chief Minister Naidu ordered a senior IPS officer to investigate the case and suspended Circle Inspector Nagaraju.
Meanwhile, D. Narasimha Kishore, the Superintendent of Police from East Godavari district, has arrived in Vijayawada to lead the investigation.
The police have recorded statements from Vijay Lakshmi and two other family members. Previously, a case was filed against the suspended officer based on Vijay Lakshmi’s complaint, which includes charges of illegal detention, murder, and destruction of evidence.
The case has been registered under sections 127(4), 127(6), 103(1), and 238 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Vijay Lakshmi alleges that her son was tortured and killed while in police custody.
