Andhra Pradesh Changes Holiday Date for Ramadan Celebration

Amaravati, March 20: The Andhra Pradesh government has revised the date for the holiday declared for Ramadan (Eid-ul-Fitr). Originally set for Friday, March 20, the holiday will now be observed on Saturday, March 21. This announcement was made by the state’s Chief Secretary, G. Sai Prasad.

The timing of Eid-ul-Fitr depends on the sighting of the moon for the new month of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar. This year, the moon was not sighted on March 19, leading to the postponement of the festival. In light of this, the Chief Executive Officer of the Waqf Board requested the government to change the holiday date, which the government has now accepted.

The Chief Secretary clarified that all government offices will operate normally on Friday, March 20. Therefore, there will be no holiday, and all employees are expected to report to their respective offices. Those who had planned for a day off will need to adjust their schedules accordingly.

Additionally, the holiday date has also been changed for shops and other business establishments. This adjustment is made under the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881, meaning banks and certain financial institutions will now remain closed on Saturday, March 21, instead of Friday.

The government has implemented this change through official orders (G.O. RT Nos. 612 and 613). This decision is entirely based on religious traditions and the sighting of the moon, which plays a crucial role in determining the date of Eid.

Eid-ul-Fitr will now be celebrated on Saturday in the state, while all operations will continue as usual on Friday. People are urged to plan accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.
