Redwood City, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : Anahat Singh, ranked 15th in the world, has secured her spot in the semifinals of the Silicon Valley Open Squash, held in Redwood City. The 18-year-old Indian player achieved this milestone by defeating Egypt’s sixth seed, Salma Hany, in a thrilling five-game match. This marks Anahat’s first appearance in a PSA Gold-level semifinal.
Just a day after her stunning victory over world number 3 and eight-time champion Nour El Sherbini, Anahat faced Hany in a quarterfinal that lasted 42 minutes. She won the match with scores of 4-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-2, and 11-5.
Despite trailing 2-1 in games, Anahat rallied back, clinching the last two games decisively with scores of 11-2 and 11-5. Reflecting on her match against Hany, Anahat noted, “I had never played against her before. I was unsure about how to approach the court. I have seen her play many times; she is very experienced on the PSA tour.”
Following her victory over El Sherbini, Anahat expressed confidence in her abilities, stating, “I know that if I play well, I have a chance against anyone.” She emphasized her determination to maintain momentum, saying, “After the emotional win on Thursday, I felt a bit fatigued today. I wanted to give my all and not lose my momentum. I’m happy to have taken a step further in the tournament.”
Anahat’s next challenge will be against Malaysia’s Shivangari Subramaniam, currently ranked fourth in the world and the reigning Asian Games champion. Anahat previously faced Subramaniam in the finals of the Asian Games 2026, where she experienced defeat.
This year has been remarkable for Anahat Singh, who began her journey by winning the World Junior Squash Championship and later reached the finals of the Asian Games Squash Singles, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve this feat.
