Amitabh Bachchan Wants to be Called Saheb by Jaya Bachchan on KBC-18

Mumbai, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Amitabh Bachchan, the iconic Bollywood actor, is currently hosting the quiz reality show “Kaun Banega Crorepati-18.” During a recent episode, he playfully revealed his desire for his wife, actress Jaya Bachchan, to refer to him as “Saheb.”

The moment unfolded when Amitabh engaged with a contestant. He asked, “Who did you bring with you today?” The contestant shared that she was accompanied by her mother-in-law and her ten-year-old son, Daksh. She added, “My husband, Saheb, wanted to come, but he couldn’t make it due to work.”

Intrigued by the term “Saheb,” Amitabh inquired, “Who is Saheb?” When the contestant explained that she affectionately calls her husband Rahul “Saheb,” the megastar laughed and remarked, “You call him Saheb?” He then expressed his intention to take inspiration from her and mentioned that he would ask Jaya to address him in the same way. “Tonight, I will tell Jaya Ji to call me Saheb; I would love that,” he said with a smile.

Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan are one of the most celebrated couples in Indian cinema. Their love story began in 1970 at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, where they first met. They reunited on the set of the film “Gully,” and during the making of “Zanjeer,” their bond deepened. They made a pact that if “Zanjeer” became a hit, they would travel to London together. When Amitabh shared this plan with his father, Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, he advised them to marry first if Jaya was going to accompany him.

On June 3, 1973, the couple wed in a simple ceremony attended by family members before heading off to London. After their marriage, Jaya began to focus on her family, stepping back from films, while Amitabh rose to fame as the “Angry Young Man” of Indian cinema and became a legendary figure.
