Mumbai, August 18: The glitzy world of the film industry is a dream for many, but only those who overcome long struggles and rejections become superstars. Even the biggest actors face rejection in their early careers. This was the case for megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
In a special episode of the quiz reality show “Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18,” Amitabh Bachchan shared his early challenges while conversing with Commonwealth Games 2026 gold medalists Lovlina Borgohain, Jaswant Kumar, Sharmila Dhanakar, and Asmita Dey.
He recalled facing significant rejections and harsh criticisms during his initial days in the industry. Bachchan mentioned that early on, he was told he was too tall to be an actor.
During the show, Asmita asked him, “Just like athletes get scolded by coaches for mistakes during training, do actors also face reprimands from directors on film sets?”
Amitabh Bachchan responded by highlighting the criticisms he endured while trying to establish himself in the industry. He stated, “We faced a lot of scolding. In the beginning, people would say, ‘You don’t know anything about acting; you’re too tall, go home.’”
He further reminisced that even after landing roles, the criticism did not cease. He shared an incident where he arrived late to a set, causing the director to remove him from the film. “Generally, we all try to be on time, but once I was late. The director was waiting outside, and we arrived in someone else’s car, as we didn’t have our own back then. As soon as we reached, the director removed me from the film,” he recounted.
Amitabh Bachchan has been a part of the entertainment industry for over five decades. His first connection to cinema was as a voice-over artist. In 1969, he lent his distinctive baritone voice to Mrinal Sen’s “Bhuvan Shome,” a low-budget film that became a landmark in India’s parallel cinema movement.
