New Delhi, February 19: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will launch the Vibrant Village Program-II (VVP-II) in Assam on Friday. This initiative aims to strengthen border villages and promote comprehensive development in border areas. The program will officially be launched in Nathanpur village, Cachar district, on February 20.

The VVP-II is designed to ensure the complete and sustainable development of border villages through a saturation-based and convergence-driven approach. It focuses on improving essential infrastructure, enhancing access to basic services, and creating sustainable employment opportunities. This aligns with the vision of a secure, strong, and prosperous border community as part of India’s development goals for 2047.

In addition to empowering these villages, the program aids local residents in becoming the eyes and ears of the nation, significantly contributing to border security, preventing cross-border crimes, and strengthening internal security.

VVP-II is a central scheme with an allocated budget of ₹6,839 crores for the financial year 2028-29. It will be implemented across 15 states and 2 Union Territories.

On the eve of the program, Amit Shah shared on the social media platform X that he will launch VVP-II in Assam. He noted that the program embodies Prime Minister Modi‘s vision for the development of India’s border villages.

He further stated that VVP has brought facilities available in other parts of the country to border villages. It has prevented migration from these areas, transformed them into prosperous residential centers, and significantly enhanced border security. VVP-II aims to extend these benefits to more villages, thereby strengthening the borders further.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed on X that the state is fully prepared to welcome Amit Shah. He mentioned that several initiatives will be dedicated to advancing the state’s development journey on Friday. Additionally, the Home Minister will participate in the CRPF Day celebrations on the 21st.
