Ambuja Cement to Invest ₹14,500 Crore in New Plant in Godda, Jharkhand

Ambuja Cement plans a new 2.9 MTPA plant in Godda, Jharkhand, as part of a ₹14,500 crore expansion across six states.

Godda, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Ambuja Cement is set to establish a new cement grinding plant in Godda, Jharkhand, with a capacity of 2.9 million tons per annum (MTPA). The company plans to invest approximately ₹14,500 crore as part of a broader initiative to enhance its production capacity across six states in India, aiming to add around 30 MTPA.

The company’s goal is to increase its total cement production capacity to 155 MTPA by the fiscal year 2030. This expansion plan includes not only Jharkhand but also projects in Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.

According to Ambuja, these proposed projects will strengthen its manufacturing network in eastern, western, and northern India. Currently, the company operates 24 integrated cement plants and 24 grinding units, with a total production capacity of 113.5 MTPA. The plant in Godda will be a crucial component of the company’s growth in eastern India, which also includes plans for similar 2.9 MTPA grinding units in Rangia and Hojai, Assam.

Additionally, a new plant with the same capacity is proposed in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, while a clinker plant with a capacity of 4 MTPA will be developed in Umrangso, Assam. The availability of clinker, a key raw material in cement production, will support the grinding units’ output. The company intends to add approximately 15.5 MTPA in the western region, 11.6 MTPA in the eastern region, and 2.9 MTPA in the northern region.

Proposed units of 2.9 MTPA are also planned in Mundra and Hazira, Gujarat, as well as in Raigad, Kalyan, and Amravati, Maharashtra, with additional capacity increases in Dahanu and Dadri, Uttar Pradesh.

Vinod Baheti, the CEO of Ambuja Cement, emphasized that the expansion aims to create a better balance and flexibility within the manufacturing network. The focus is on enhancing coordination between clinker and grinding capacities while establishing production units closer to high-demand markets.

In the second half of fiscal year 2027, the company expects to stabilize and increase production at its 1.2 MTPA plant in Bathinda, Punjab, and a 2 MTPA integrated plant in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. There are also plans to commence operations at a 2.4 MTPA grinding unit in Warisaliganj, Bihar. Upon completion of these projects, the total cement capacity is projected to reach 119 MTPA by March 2027.

As of September 30, 2026, the company has completed 11 expansion projects following its acquisition, adding 16.3 MTPA of cement and 9 MTPA of clinker production capacity.
