At the Hathni Kund Barrage in Yamunanagar, warning sirens were sounded at 1 am, causing panic among nearby residents. Following an inflow of 1.05 lakh cusecs of water at 2 am on Sunday night, all floodgates were opened. By 9 am on Monday, the water level had risen to 3.29 lakh cusecs, the highest of the season. In view of the rising water, the administration has placed Delhi on alert, warning that low-lying areas could face flooding. Sirens have also been sounded to warn people to stay away from the Yamuna River.

The administration has advised villages along the Yamuna to remain on alert, instructing residents not to approach the riverbanks or take their livestock for grazing near the water. The Delhi government has been asked to evacuate low-lying areas as the surge is expected to reach the national capital within the next 25 to 30 hours, raising the risk of flooding in Delhi.

In Sirsa district, the walls of two houses collapsed late at night, though the families escaped unharmed. A minor canal breach in the area led to flooding of crops across 50 acres. The Ghaggar River in Sirsa is flowing at dangerous levels. In Faridabad, the Yamuna is overflowing, while the Markanda River in Kurukshetra has also been above the danger mark since yesterday. In Kaithal’s Guhla Cheeka area, the Ghaggar River is flowing at 21 feet, close to the 23-foot danger level. Administrative officials are closely monitoring the situation at all affected sites.
