Lucknow, April 28: Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav visited Medanta Hospital on Tuesday to meet BJP MLA Anupama Jaiswal. She was injured while protesting against the alleged non-passage of the Women’s Reservation (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha. During the protest, a statue of Akhilesh Yadav was set on fire, resulting in burns to her face.
Anupama Jaiswal, who represents the Bahraich constituency, sustained injuries when the statue unexpectedly caught fire during a demonstration organized by the BJP against the ‘India’ alliance’s Women’s Reservation Bill. The flames spread rapidly after she lit a match, leading to her injuries.
Sharing details of his visit on the social media platform X, Akhilesh Yadav stated, “We do not want to incite fire among the people of society. We hope for harmony in society. Our tradition of positive politics teaches us this. That is why we visited BJP MLA Anupama Jaiswal and wished for her speedy recovery.”
He added, “Politics has its place, and human relationships hold their significance. Let harmony prevail.”
The incident occurred during a protest led by MLA Jaiswal, where effigies of Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were being burned. The situation escalated when the MLA ignited the match, causing the effigy to suddenly burst into flames.
BJP district vice president Rahul Rai mentioned that the effigy likely contained a large amount of petrol, which resulted in a fireball that struck the MLA’s face. Consequently, flames ignited her forehead and hair. Party workers present at the scene quickly extinguished the fire and transported her to the hospital in a police vehicle.
Earlier, responding to the incident, Akhilesh Yadav shared a video on the social media platform X, urging caution, “Those who ignite fires should be careful! Proper arrangements must be made for the treatment of the injured woman.”
