Lucknow, April 18: Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party (SP), has launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. He stated that this bill was introduced to divert public attention from growing dissent and anger against the BJP, ultimately marking the party’s defeat and revealing its malintent.
Yadav asserted that every effort and legislation by the BJP aims to benefit a select few or to divide society. He claimed that this time, the BJP attempted to create a rift among women and confuse them under the guise of women’s reservation, but the unity of the opposition thwarted their plans.
He emphasized that the outcome reflects the rising public awareness in the country, which is represented by the opposition. Targeting the BJP, he accused the party of losing its moral foundation to remain in power, stating that the public is now standing against it.
The SP leader also questioned the BJP’s claims of being pro-women. He remarked that the BJP’s mindset is outdated and that those who deny the concept of family tend to overlook the pivotal role of women in society. According to him, the proposed bill aimed to obscure several other issues, which faced opposition.
Yadav suggested that if the matter had been advanced with broad consensus after the parliamentary proceedings, it is likely that all parties would have supported it. He stated that the unity of the opposition has made it clear that the BJP government is morally weakened.
He sarcastically noted that a government that loses in Parliament does not have the right to remain in power. Furthermore, he expressed that the public is now convinced that difficult times are coming to an end.
