Patna, March 20: The recent Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar have left the Mahagathbandhan coalition tasting defeat. Congress MP Akhilesh Singh expressed his disappointment, stating it is shameful that three of their legislators failed to vote when they should have.
The contest for the fifth Rajya Sabha seat was particularly contentious. Leaders from the RJD, including Tejashwi Yadav, were also claiming victory for this seat. However, the absence of three Congress legislators changed the entire outcome, resulting in the seat going to the NDA.
In a conversation in Patna, Singh remarked, “It is unfortunate that not a single member from a party like Congress showed up to vote. This is embarrassing for us.” He also highlighted the issue of horse trading, alleging that legislators were lured with money and kept absent from voting.
Singh pointed out that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had previously opposed horse trading but participated in the Rajya Sabha elections this time. While the NDA emerged victorious, Singh condemned the actions of all parties involved, labeling them as a disgrace to democracy.
Regarding the portrayal of mafia don Atiq Ahmed’s connections with the ISI in the film ‘Dhurdhar 2’, Singh stated, “What information could I possibly have about this? If you lack credible sources, ask them about their connections. Inquire with the filmmakers and producers.”
It is noteworthy that questions have been raised about the Congress state president following the absence of the three legislators during the elections. The absent legislators claimed they did not attend at the president’s request, while state president Rajesh Ram dismissed these claims as false. Tejashwi Yadav commented on the loss of the fifth seat, stating, “We were winning, but in the end, the legislators were stolen.”
