Akali Dal Demands ED Investigation Against AAP MLA for Corruption in Punjab

Chandigarh, May 11: Leaders from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have called for an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into allegations of large-scale corruption against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Ashok Kumar Pappi Parashar. SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia made the announcement on Monday, highlighting claims of money laundering involving Parashar’s personal assistant.

Majithia stated that Parashar, the MLA from Ludhiana (Central), allegedly extorted ₹1.10 crore from candidates for 87 contract positions and 39 clerk roles in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. He accused Parashar of creating fake lists to show selected candidates. When the scam came to light, the MLA reportedly ordered his assistant to leave the city, threatening him with violence if he did not comply.

Further allegations were revealed by Majithia, who noted that Parashar deposited money into his assistant’s account on two occasions and then withdrew it through family members. The first incident occurred on March 8, 2024, when ₹90 lakh was deposited from an individual residing in Canada.

On the same day, ₹40 lakh was transferred to the account of Parashar’s wife, Meenu Parashar, followed by additional transfers of ₹10 lakh and ₹25 lakh the next day.

Another case of wrongdoing was disclosed, involving a building inspector from Ludhiana, Harminder Singh Makkar, who deposited ₹30 lakh into the assistant’s account on April 24, 2024. Following the usual pattern, Parashar transferred ₹15 lakh to his own account the next day, along with a transfer of ₹99,000 to his son’s account.

Majithia claimed that the remaining funds were settled through fake bills. He also mentioned that Parashar had successfully lobbied for the cancellation of Makkar’s transfer to Jalandhar, further demonstrating their close relationship.
