AIUDF Accuses BJP of Election Fraud in Nagaon Lok Sabha By-Election
AIUDF leader Aminul Islam claims BJP manipulated votes in Nagaon by-election to secure victory for Debashis Sharma.

Guwahati, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Aminul Islam has leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming they manipulated the recent Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election to ensure victory for their candidate, Debashis Sharma. Speaking in Guwahati on Friday, Islam asserted that the true winner was AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, who he claims had the support of the electorate.
Islam accused BJP workers of collaborating with independent agents to influence the election results through fraudulent voting practices. He detailed instances where 16 to 20 agents were stationed at a single polling station, and votes were cast in the names of individuals working outside Assam.
Furthermore, Islam alleged that between 100,000 to 200,000 votes from Muslims working outside the state were fraudulently cast to benefit the BJP candidate. “The people chose Maulana Badruddin Ajmal as their MP, but the BJP forcibly ensured Debashis Sharma’s victory,” he stated.
These accusations were made during a thank-you rally in Samaguri, where Ajmal and other leaders expressed gratitude to voters for their support. However, it is important to note that these claims of electoral fraud have not been independently verified, and no evidence has been presented to substantiate them.
The allegations come amid ongoing political tensions between the AIUDF and BJP regarding the Nagaon by-election results. On October 6, the BJP claimed a decisive victory, with Sharma defeating Ajmal by a margin of 142,224 votes. Sharma received 714,349 votes, while Ajmal garnered 572,125 votes. Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora finished third with 129,492 votes.
This by-election was necessitated after former Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi resigned from the party and joined the BJP.
