New Delhi, August 14 (Kiran News) – The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a warning to Air India for operating flights from Bengaluru to the UK that exceeded the prescribed 10-hour flight time limit. The warning follows a probe into two flights in May, where the regulator found violations of Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).

Air India confirmed receiving the warning, stating that the letter pertained to two flights reported in May. The airline said that the flights had been permitted to operate longer due to airspace closures, but the provision was misinterpreted, leading to the issue. Once clarified, the matter was immediately rectified.

According to DGCA, a show cause notice had been issued to Air India on June 20 over deficiencies found during spot inspections of flights AI-133 on May 16 and 17. The regulator noted that the airline had failed to comply with instructions issued under CAR.

The regulator also pointed out that it had previously sent notices to the airline. However, after Air India submitted its reply, DGCA found it unsatisfactory and subsequently issued a warning to Air India CEO Campbell Wilson. The letter advised the airline to strictly adhere to all applicable aviation rules.

As per regulations, a pilot can fly for a maximum of eight hours, or up to 10 hours if there are two pilots on board. After reaching this limit, pilots must take a mandatory rest period of 16 hours before operating the next flight.
