Ambala, June 16: District Sports Officer Ram Swarup Sharma has announced that the air conditioning system in the gymnastics hall at War Heroes Memorial Stadium is currently non-operational due to the theft of copper pipes. In the interim, exhaust fans have been installed to alleviate the heat. A request for permission to install a new air conditioning unit has been submitted to headquarters, and installation will commence as soon as approval is received.
In a conversation with the media, Sharma stated, “The air conditioning in the gymnastics hall was malfunctioning, and we reported this issue promptly. We wrote to headquarters requesting permission for repairs. Meanwhile, we installed exhaust fans to ensure that children can train comfortably. Before the fans were installed, the heat was unbearable. Now, the temperature feels reduced by 60 to 70 percent, as reported by the children and coaches. We will definitely install the air conditioning as soon as we receive the necessary approval.”
Currently, the swimming pool remains closed to the public, causing inconvenience for many who wish to train. Sharma clarified that the pool is open for athletes, but it requires staff for public access. “We are in the process of issuing tenders for staffing. Once the tender process is complete and staff is available, we will reopen the pool to the public. For safety reasons, it remains closed at this time due to the lack of personnel,” he explained.
The air conditioning system has been out of service for 70 days following the copper pipe theft, forcing over 100 athletes to train in uncomfortable conditions with only fans for relief. The delay in the tender process for the swimming pool is also impacting training schedules.
