AIADMK Announces Candidates for Puducherry Assembly Elections 2026

Puducherry, March 22: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has announced two candidates for the upcoming assembly elections. Former MLA A. Anbazhagan will contest from the Orliampet constituency, while A. Gandhi will represent the Urulaiyampet constituency.

As the assembly election date approaches, political parties in Puducherry are ramping up their preparations. AIADMK, BJP, Congress, and TVK are all unveiling their candidates. Soon, TVK is expected to make an official announcement regarding actor-turned-politician Vijay’s candidacy for the Puducherry assembly elections.

Discussions between Congress and DMK are still ongoing. With only one day left for filing nominations, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram is set to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday. This meeting is a crucial last-ditch effort to maintain the DMK-Congress alliance.

Meanwhile, the BJP has released its second list of candidates. On Sunday, the party’s central election committee decided to field M. Arul Murugan from the Karaikal South constituency. This announcement comes as the election date draws near, with all political parties finalizing their preparations.

The Election Commission has also taken significant steps regarding the upcoming assembly elections and by-elections. On Sunday, the commission issued clear directives to ensure that all polling stations across the country provide the necessary minimum facilities and assistance to voters, allowing everyone to exercise their voting rights without hassle.

On March 15, the commission announced the schedule for assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, along with by-elections in six states. Following this, detailed guidelines were issued to the Chief Electoral Officers of the states and Union Territories.
