Ahmedabad, June 24: During the School Admission Festival held in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi participated in a program at Anupam Primary School. Here, children rescued by Ahmedabad police were enrolled in schools as part of the government’s initiative to connect them with education.
On this occasion, Harsh Sanghvi remarked that today is a significant day, as many children are beginning a new chapter in their lives through this festival. He emphasized that for some children, this is not just school enrollment but a ‘second birth.’
The Deputy Chief Minister revealed that Ahmedabad police have successfully rescued over 276 children from begging and arranged their admission into various schools. Among them are more than 33 children who are stepping into a school for the first time.
Sanghvi noted that these children had never heard the sound of a school bell. Their world was confined to traffic signals, the noise of vehicles, and the whistles of police officers. Today, those same children are getting the opportunity to sit in classrooms and learn.
He praised the efforts of Ahmedabad police, stating that they have not only facilitated the children’s journey from the streets to school but have also taken on parental responsibilities. Police officers will visit the schools monthly to ensure that the children are studying well and facing no difficulties.
The Deputy Chief Minister expressed hope that the hands that once held begging bowls would now hold books. This transformation has been made possible through the joint efforts of Ahmedabad police, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, and the Gujarat government.
He added that the children’s eyes now reflect new dreams and confidence. This is not just an ordinary school admission festival; it marks the beginning of a new chapter in these children’s lives. Their journey has transitioned from traffic signals to classrooms, and in the coming days, education will be the means to fulfill their dreams.
Harsh Sanghvi congratulated all officials from Ahmedabad police, the municipal corporation, and the Gujarat government for this humanitarian initiative, stating that today a large number of children have embarked on a new beginning, serving as an inspiring example for society.
