Ahmedabad, August 2: In response to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy rainfall, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has deployed over 13,000 officials and staff across more than 600 field teams throughout the city.
The AMC reported that employees have been working around the clock in all zones and wards for the past two days. Their primary goal is to ensure the swift drainage of rainwater, monitor pumping stations, and be ready to act immediately in case of emergencies.
According to the corporation, these measures have significantly aided in quickly removing water from affected areas, preventing large-scale flooding and minimizing disruptions to daily life.
Officials, staff, councilors, and other representatives are collaborating to monitor the situation and respond to local issues effectively.
With the IMD maintaining its heavy rain forecast for Saturday, all municipal teams have been instructed to remain fully prepared.
The corporation stated that continuous monitoring is underway across the city, with personnel, machinery, and equipment deployed for immediate response when necessary.
The sewage treatment plant (STP) department has also initiated additional preparations for rainwater management.
Special teams have been stationed at all major and rainwater pumping stations to monitor water levels around the clock. Officials and staff have been directed to stay alert at their designated locations.
A special control room has been activated to oversee the operations of rainwater pumping stations during heavy rainfall. Technical staff and emergency response teams are also stationed at these facilities.
In the event of power outages, generators have been installed at all critical pumping stations and rainwater collection centers to ensure drainage operations continue.
The STP department has kept jetting machines and super sucker machines ready for rapid sediment removal as needed.
Officials reported that the monitoring of water levels at pumping stations, pump operations, and drainage capacity is being conducted continuously through a central server.
Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani visited potential flooding sites in the Chandkheda ward of the western region to assess ground-level preparations.
During the inspection, he reviewed drainage and rainwater systems, pumping arrangements, staff deployment, and machinery with officials, issuing directives to ensure a swift response during heavy rainfall.
