Ahmedabad, March 28: Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has inaugurated a modern facility named ‘Rain Basera’ to provide a safe and dignified accommodation option for patients’ relatives.
Constructed at a cost of ₹60 crore, this building features 858 beds and aims to alleviate the challenges faced by families who struggle to find affordable lodging near the hospital.
As Asia’s largest civil hospital, it caters to patients from across Gujarat, other states, and even abroad, including those requiring complex surgeries and specialized care.
Previously, many families were forced to stay in expensive hotels or sleep on the streets due to a lack of nearby facilities and financial constraints.
Officials stated, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the guidance of Health Minister Prabhul Pansheria, ‘Rain Basera’ was developed to address this issue.”
The facility is designed to ensure that families accompanying patients have access to clean, safe, and comfortable housing.
Officials also noted, “This will help reduce congestion in the corridors and galleries, making it easier to maintain cleanliness throughout the hospital.”
The ‘Rain Basera’ comprises a basement, ground floor, and eight upper floors, covering a total built-up area of 24,436 square meters.
On the ground floor, there is a large canteen with a capacity for 280 people, a modern kitchen, a TV room, a reception area, a bank ATM, and eight shops for daily necessities.
The dormitory includes clean restrooms and secure lockers for personal belongings. To manage traffic efficiently, the basement has parking for 58 four-wheelers and 91 two-wheelers.
