
Kabul, March 29: Afghan security forces have dismantled two heroin processing labs in the western Ghor province. The Afghan Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday that over 6,000 kilograms of illegal drugs were destroyed during the operation.
According to a report from the Xinhua News Agency, the ministry stated that counter-narcotics units conducted targeted operations in the outskirts of the province. These operations resulted in the destruction of the facilities and the seizure of 6,140 kilograms of narcotics used in heroin production.
Afghan officials have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking and production nationwide. They have vowed to continue operations until opium cultivation and heroin production are completely eradicated in the war-torn country.
On February 24, the provincial police office reported that Afghan police arrested two drug traffickers in Takhar province during an anti-drug campaign. They seized 41 kilograms of illegal drugs from the suspects, who were attempting to smuggle 29 kilograms of opium and 12 kilograms of hashish on February 23.
On February 3, a police spokesperson, Mullah Kalimullah Nangyal, announced that two drug traffickers were arrested in Farah province, with 75 kilograms of narcotics seized. Acting on intelligence, security forces raided a location in the Farah Rod district, capturing the two suspects and confiscating 75 kilograms of raw opium, along with an assault rifle found at the scene.
Earlier, on February 1, the provincial police office reported the seizure of 170 kilograms of illegal drugs from a vehicle in Herat province. Two alleged drug traffickers were taken into custody after police stopped the car based on intelligence and discovered hidden containers containing opium and hashish. The suspects were arrested for attempting to transport the drugs to an undisclosed location.
Following initial questioning, the detained individuals will be handed over to judicial authorities.
