Ujjain, August 21: On the auspicious occasion of Shravana Shukla Paksha Navami, the Mahakaleshwar Temple hosted the Bhasma Aarti of Lord Mahakal. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this divine event. Actor Manoj Joshi was among those who participated in the Bhasma Aarti on Friday morning.

After seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As devotees were granted darshan of Lord Mahakal following the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and sacred mantras.

Lord Mahakal was adorned with a silver crown and a trident, along with a garland of flowers. He was specially decorated as a devotee of Lord Ram, with the name “Ram” inscribed on his forehead and bel leaves bearing the same name offered to him.

Sharing his experience of the Bhasma Aarti, Manoj Joshi expressed that the feelings he encountered were a divine revelation, indescribable in words. He prayed to Mahakal to grant immense strength to the youth of the nation and to prioritize the youth as the backbone of the country. He wished for Mahakal’s blessings for the welfare of all.

As the temple doors opened, the chanting of mantras accompanied the ritual bathing of Lord Mahakal with Panchamrit, made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. Lord Mahakal wore the moon on his head. During the worship, the first bell was rung, and “Hari Om” water was offered. After the camphor Aarti, Lord Mahakal donned a crown. The Bhasma Aarti was conducted with the sounds of cymbals, drums, and conch shells, showcasing the grandeur of Lord Mahakal.

The temple priest conducted the Maha Aarti, and many devotees witnessed the Bhasma Aarti of Lord Mahakal. To have a glimpse of their deity, numerous devotees had queued up since the previous night. Traditionally, men are required to wear dhoti and women sarees during the Bhasma Aarti.

According to tradition, the Maha Nirvani Akhara offers the Bhasma Aarti to Lord Mahakal. It is believed that after the Bhasma is offered, Lord Mahakal reveals his form to the devotees. Many pilgrims travel to the holy city of Ujjain to partake in this sacred Aarti.
