Ahmedabad, March 9: India clinched the T20 World Cup 2026 title on Sunday by defeating New Zealand in the final. His father revealed that after winning the U-19 World Cup, the left-handed batsman was determined to lead the senior team to World Cup victory one day.

Abhishek’s father, Raj Kumar Sharma, shared in an interview, “After winning the U-19 World Cup, Abhishek came home and told me he would play in the senior team and win the World Cup for India. He even wrote it down that he would soon play in the senior World Cup, and today that day has come.”

Raj Kumar also addressed his son’s recent struggles, stating that every player faces tough phases in their career. He expressed pride that Abhishek managed to regain his form just in time for the T20 World Cup. He praised captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir, calling Suryakumar an excellent captain and Gambhir a coach with extensive cricketing experience.
