New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has praised young opener Abhishek Sharma, stating that he has surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle in terms of aggressive batting combined with consistency.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif said, “Usually, players who play like Chris Gayle are not consistent. I have seen many big names who often try to play big shots but fail to maintain form. Abhishek has taken that template a step further. He has gone beyond Gayle. He doesn’t need to settle his eyes; he attacks straight away. So, no amount of praise for him is enough.”
Kaif further added, “Batsmen of this style often fail to perform regularly. After a good innings, many face failures. But look at Abhishek’s approach. He proves himself in every match. Even if he faces 12-14 balls, he can score 60-70 runs, which makes him a match-winner. When Abhishek is in form, India’s chances of winning are almost certain.”
