Abhishek Sharma Shatters Record with Fastest T20 Half-Century for India in England

Chester-le-Street, July 2: The first T20 match of the series between India and England was unfortunately washed out due to rain. However, Abhishek Sharma made headlines with his remarkable batting performance. He became the fastest Indian to score a half-century on English soil.

In this match, Abhishek faced just 24 balls, scoring an impressive 59 runs. He maintained a striking rate of 245, hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes. His half-century came in a mere 20 balls, breaking the previous record held by KL Rahul, who scored his fifty in 27 balls during a T20 match in 2018. Abhishek has consistently excelled against the English team, amassing 347 runs at a strike rate of 219 across 7 T20 innings.

Besides Abhishek, captain Shreyas Iyer also showcased his form, scoring 68 runs off 47 balls with the help of 6 fours and a six. Unfortunately, Sanju Samson continued his poor run, managing only 1 run off 7 balls before being dismissed. Ishan Kishan also struggled, getting run out without scoring. Tilak Varma added 13 runs before his dismissal.

On a positive note, Shivam Dube remained unbeaten at 42 runs off 21 balls, striking at a rate of 200 with 2 fours and 3 sixes. Thanks to his explosive innings, the Indian team posted a total of 189 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. However, persistent rain forced the match to be abandoned. The second match of the series is scheduled to take place on July 4 in Manchester.
