Kolkata, March 29: Abhishek Banerjee, the National General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress, accused the BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of having a covert agreement with former Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury and Humayun Kabir, the leader of the Common People’s Upliftment Party.
While addressing a public rally in Murshidabad district’s Naoda, Banerjee emphasized that voting for either Chowdhury or Kabir would effectively strengthen the BJP.
He launched a scathing attack on both leaders, stating, “It is Amit Shah’s office that provides security to Humayun Kabir and Adhir Chowdhury. I challenge both of you: if you have even a shred of integrity left, return the central security you have received; the state government will take care of your safety. What kind of ‘setting’ or secret agreement do you have? The common people must understand this. In reality, you are only empowering the BJP. Everyone knows this.”
At the beginning of his speech, Banerjee took both leaders to task, labeling them as agents of the BJP.
Humayun Kabir, a former Trinamool Congress leader, joined the BJP in 2019 but later returned to Trinamool Congress, becoming an MLA from Bharatpur.
Referencing this, Banerjee criticized the former MLA, alleging that Kabir is now engaging in religion-based politics at the behest of the BJP.
Banerjee stated, “The BJP is seeking votes by politicizing religion and temples. Humayun Kabir is sowing discord in the name of religion. Suddenly, he has realized that a Babri mosque should be built in Murshidabad. However, when he joined the BJP in 2019 and contested the Lok Sabha elections, he never thought about building a Babri mosque. Humayun had allied with those responsible for demolishing the Babri mosque. Voting for these individuals is akin to voting for Prime Minister Modi and the BJP.”
Meanwhile, acknowledging internal conflicts within the party in Murshidabad district, he delivered a stern message to party workers. He stated that they are closely monitoring everyone and warned that disciplinary action would be taken if necessary.
He said, “If you wear the party jersey, play for this team. Do not attempt to play for another team. If you try to play for another team, you will be expelled within a month and will never be allowed to return. I am watching everyone. I am issuing a warning: if anyone thinks they can create chaos while remaining in the party, they will not be forgiven.”
Banerjee further added, “If anyone has the misconception that there is a rift between me and the candidate, they should understand that the candidate is none other than Abhishek Banerjee himself. Personal likes or dislikes will not be given any importance.”
