Chandigarh, March 24: Sukhbir Singh Badal, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), stated on Tuesday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is failing to provide any assistance to farmers in Punjab. This includes the promised Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 22 crops. As a result, farmers are being driven to despair and are resorting to suicide.
Expressing sorrow over the tragic decision made by two brothers, Jaswinder and Jasakaran, from Faridkot district who fell into debt, Badal criticized the AAP for making grand promises without delivering any support. He pointed out that the government has not even purchased the moong dal that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had promised.
He further noted that the government has taken no steps to prevent the forced sale of cotton, maize, or potatoes. The AAP government has failed to provide the promised compensation of ₹50,000 for crop damage and has not compensated farmers whose crops were devastated by last year’s floods, affecting four lakh acres.
While addressing a rally in Mansa town alongside senior leader Prem Arora as part of the Punjab Bachao campaign, Badal claimed that the government is doing nothing but spending on advertisements. He revealed that the AAP government has spent ₹4,400 crores on advertisements, with the latest campaign claiming that Punjab ranks number one in school education. This is misleading, as national data ranks Punjab 18th in comparison to other states.
He added that this discrepancy is understandable, as the Chief Minister does not trust government schools for his daughter’s education and instead opts for the most expensive private institutions.
Badal also announced that the next SAD government will establish a World Skill Training University in the region. This university will enroll one lakh students annually and aims to provide skills in partnership with the corporate sector, establishing centers in each district. This initiative will make our youth employable and ensure they receive good salaries.
