AAP Faces Major Setback as Seven MPs Join BJP: Raghav Chadha

New Delhi, April 24: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered a significant blow. On Friday, Raghav Chadha, a member of the Rajya Sabha, announced that he and six other party MPs have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Chadha described this move as a merger of more than two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha members into the BJP.

In a post on the social media platform X, Chadha stated that today, utilizing the provisions of the Indian Constitution, more than two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs have merged with the BJP. Seven MPs signed the document submitted to the Rajya Sabha Chairman. Chadha, along with two other MPs, personally delivered the signed documents.

Meanwhile, AAP has labeled this as BJP’s “Operation Lotus.” The party alleges that central agencies like the ED and CBI are being used to coerce AAP leaders into defecting. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed that through Operation Lotus, the BJP aims to destabilize the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann. He emphasized that this is a betrayal of the people of Punjab, who will never forget it.

Earlier, Chadha made serious allegations regarding his decision to leave the party, stating that AAP has completely deviated from its core principles. He mentioned that the party he nurtured for 15 years has lost its way. Now, he believes AAP is working for personal gain rather than the nation’s interest.

Chadha noted that all leaders had worked hard to expand AAP in Delhi, Punjab, and other states, but circumstances have changed. He expressed that he is moving away from AAP to connect with the public.

Regarding his decision to join the BJP, Chadha praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He stated that over the past 12 years, the central government has made several decisions that many leaders feared to take. The public has endorsed this leadership three times, and now they will also work for the country under this leadership.

Chadha further mentioned that AAP has 10 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, and more than two-thirds of them support this initiative. He confirmed that they have already signed the necessary documents, which include signed letters and other formal papers submitted to the Rajya Sabha Chairman. As he stated, more than two-thirds of the MPs are backing them, and they will soon provide a complete list. Among those present are world-class cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Rajendra Gupta, Vikram Sahni, and Swati Maliwal.
