New Delhi, March 13: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticized the government’s decision to make the Pink Card mandatory for women’s free travel on buses in Delhi. Saurabh Bhardwaj, the party’s Delhi state president, described this move as a source of inconvenience for women.
Bhardwaj stated that the new policy forces women to stand in long lines for hours. He shared videos on social media platform ‘X’ showing women queuing outside centers to obtain the Pink Card. He argued that this decision has unnecessarily troubled women in Delhi. Previously, women enjoyed hassle-free access to free bus travel, but the new requirement has disrupted this smooth service.
He claimed that the government’s action particularly affects poor and working women, who are now compelled to sacrifice time from their jobs and household responsibilities to wait in line for the card.
Bhardwaj questioned the necessity of enforcing the Pink Card when women were already benefiting from free travel. He asked the government to clarify what additional advantages this new rule would provide that were not available before.
He likened the situation to the long queues experienced during the demonetization period, stating that now, women in Delhi are facing similar challenges to obtain the Pink Card.
Bhardwaj alleged that political motives are behind this decision, which will adversely impact poor women from states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana living in Delhi.
The Aam Aadmi Party has called on the government to reconsider this decision and restore the previous system of free bus travel for women without any additional formalities, to prevent unnecessary hardships.
