Over the past five years, the proportion of engineers in executive roles has steadily risen, reaching 55% in 2025. Hindustan Zinc currently employs more than 1,490 executive engineers, including over 270 women engineers, who are breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated domains such as underground mining, smelters, labs, and advanced technology teams. Achievements include India’s first all-women mine management team and the country’s first all-women underground mine rescue team.

To further strengthen its talent base, HZL recently welcomed 300 young professionals through its flagship VLDP, GET, PGET, and MT programs, recruited from premier Indian institutions.

Engineers at the Core of Transformation

Arun Misra, CEO and Whole-Time Director of Hindustan Zinc, said:
“Engineers are the backbone of Hindustan Zinc’s growth and transformation. Their spirit of innovation, technical excellence, and problem-solving not only drives our success but also contributes to India’s ambition of becoming self-reliant and sustainable.”

Mechanical Engineer Kavita Meena, working at the Sindesar Khurd mine, shared her experience:
“At Hindustan Zinc, learning is a continuous journey. Upskilling, data-driven tools, and world-class equipment help us transform challenges into ground-level solutions. This improves productivity, enhances safety, supports community growth, and contributes to nation-building.”

Pioneering Digital and Green Innovations

HZL engineers are at the forefront of introducing tele-remote underground mining, real-time analytics, automation, robotics, and decarbonisation initiatives. Their efforts are making operations more efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible, while also supporting India’s climate goals and boosting industrial competitiveness.

Looking ahead, Hindustan Zinc said its engineers will continue to play a central role in building sustainable operations and delivering on the company’s ESG commitments. With one of India’s most diverse engineering workforces and a strong focus on digital and green innovation, HZL is reinforcing its leadership in zinc and silver production while contributing to India’s long-term industrial and economic growth.
