Washington, April 6: U.S. forces conducted a high-risk operation to rescue an American pilot who was downed in Iran. This complex military mission aimed to extract the pilot from hostile territory safely.
The operation was triggered after an American F-15E fighter jet was shot down over Iran, leaving one crew member stranded for nearly two days while Iranian security forces searched for him.
According to media reports from Politico, U.S. intelligence officials employed a deception strategy, spreading false information that the pilot had already been located and was being extracted from the country.
The report stated, “The CIA disseminated news within Iran that U.S. forces had found the pilot and were extracting him by land.” This tactic aimed to confuse Iranian search teams and buy time for U.S. forces to pinpoint the pilot’s exact location.
Politico noted, “This maneuver allowed the CIA to locate the downed pilot and discreetly relay his precise location to the White House and Pentagon.”
On the ground, the pilot fought to survive under challenging geographical conditions. According to CNN, he hid alone in mountainous terrain, climbing to higher ground and taking refuge in a crevice to evade Iranian patrols.
He had limited equipment, including a pistol, communication devices, and a tracking beacon. For over a day, he remained out of reach of U.S. forces as they attempted to locate him.
The U.S. military launched a large-scale search and rescue operation involving special operations soldiers, surveillance aircraft, and air support. CNN reported that elite units such as the Army Delta Force and Navy SEAL Team Six were part of this mission.
