Dhanbad, 16 November (Daily Kiran) — Tension broke out at the Dhanbad Railway Parcel Office on Sunday when animal rights activist Shaumik Banerjee and his team reached the premises after receiving information that nearly 500 rabbits had been kept illegally for several days. The rabbits were reportedly being prepared for transport to another location by train.

During inspection, it was found that Shaha Enterprises was planning to send the rabbits from Dhanbad to Moradabad. Banerjee said that railway rules allow a maximum of 10 rabbits per cage, but the cages were heavily overloaded. There was no arrangement for food or water, leading to severe distress among the animals.

Due to negligence, around four rabbits had already died, while some had even given birth inside the cramped cages. Banerjee warned that if immediate action is not taken, all the rabbits could die.

Parcel employee Rupak Kumar stated that the consignment had been stopped due to lack of proper documents and violation of transport guidelines. Meanwhile, the person who brought the rabbits reportedly left the office citing health issues.
